From a precocious independent to a pillar in industry, technology and logistics

Van de Groep & Olsthoorn is a family company, established in 1979 by Wim van de Groep. And even though he no longer works here himself, his long-term focus, the drive and the passion for the professional are still tangible on the work floor every day.

When Wim collaborated in the 1970s with executive search agencies, he was asked by two of those agencies to come and work for them. The offer appealed to him, but he hesitated: the job excited him, but he thought he could do it better himself. He soon made a decision: starting his own recruitment and selection agency. The name: his own last name plus the last name of his wife.

Growth and focus

The one-man enterprise of Van de Groep & Olsthoorn quickly grew into a team with multiple consultants and assistants. After about four years, it was time to specialise, in order to stand out from the competition. A great preference for and a great deal of experience in technology led to a focus on the world of technology, industry and logistics. In other words: only doing projects for companies with a technological character. And that means saying ‘no’ to certain projects. Difficult, but necessary, and ultimately successful. Today, Van de Groep & Olsthoorn not only has a track record on the national level, the company also does a great deal of work for Dutch clients at their international locations.

Family company

In 1997, a very good employee unexpectedly terminated his contract, in the middle of a busy time. During an informal conversation between Wim and his son, Gertjan van de Groep instinctively offered: ‘Shall I do it?’ He has a technology-business background himself, and appeared to be cut of the right cloth: an eye for the work, an eye for people and an eye for the wishes of clients. In 2007, Gertjan took over the company from his father.

Van de Groep & Olsthoorn stood by the cradle of the current industry organisation, SUMMUM, a body intended to certify a distinctive, high-quality agency.
